Dumbassey TN Sen. Massey wants Registered Persons to register where they attend church

I have an idea. If this dumb bill passes, every Registered Person living in Tennessee should registe r their church as Global Vision Bible Church, 1010 Maddox-Simpson Pkwy, Lebanon, TN 37090.

Pastor Greg Locke would just love it! LOL

New bill could require sex offenders to report if they’re members of a church, other religious orgs in TN

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A new bill introduced in the Tennessee Senate on Thursday would require sexual offenders to report to authorities their membership in a church or another religious organization.

SB 0451, introduced by Sen. Becky Massey (R-Knoxville), is pushing for sex offenders to have to report to authorities if they’re registered members of a Tennessee religious organization.

In turn, the bill would also require the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to provide all public information about an offender to any church, temple, or other religious group or organization in Tennessee where the offender is a member.

“As introduced, requires sexual and violent sexual offenders to disclose the name, address, and phone number of any church, temple, or other religious group or organization in this state where the offender is a registered member; specifies that this information is considered public information; requires the TBI to provide all public information about an offender to any church, temple, or other religious group or organization in this state where the offender is a registered member when an offender registers as a sexual or violent sexual offender or updates a registration,” the bill reads.

Millersville TN's Assistant Police Chief Shawn Taylor engages in illegal entrapment stings with a vigilante scumbag group & boats of sending arrestees off to be murdered

This rogue police department set people up using a private vigilante group and sent people to facilities where they intended for those they entrapped to be assaulted, possibly murdered. These MAGAts should be rounded up and hauled off to prison themselves.

Shawn Taylor, aka the "Conspiracy Cop", is the head of this two-bit operation. He has apparently switches jobs every few months.

'Disturbing' recordings from inside child-predator sting shows police, MAGA operatives ignoring laws

Recordings show police discussing luring predator suspect to a jurisdiction where he may not leave the jail alive

Shawn Taylor puts the ASS in assistant

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — What happens when you give people with bizarre conspiracy theories a gun and a badge?

Secret recordings from inside the troubled Millersville Police Department provide a sobering answer to that question.

Those recordings — obtained from what was supposed to be a sting operation to nab sexual predators who prey on innocent children — show that, in their zeal to make some big cases, Millersville's conspiracy-minded cops may have crossed the line of what's legal.

That sting was run back in May by Millersville Assistant Police Chief Shawn Taylor and a colorful cast of characters he assembled for the operation.

Among the revelations, the recordings show:

  • Taylor did not involve other law enforcement agencies with more experience in such operations because of his unfounded conspiracy theories that prominent state officials are involved in child sex trafficking.
  • Members of a private group posed online as minors — despite Millersville police being told by prosecutors that the sting would be legal only if sworn law enforcement officers were the ones doing the work.
  • Shawn Taylor told one operative that investigators would be using "pre-signed search warrants," which would likely be illegal, according to experts.
  • Police arrested one suspect then, when he refused to talk to investigators, they turned him over to the private group for questioning.
  • A Millersville detective boasted that the suspect was being taken to a jail where it was likely that he might not come out alive.

"This is the most disturbing video that I've ever been asked to comment on since I've been asked to do the legal analyst job here at the station," said Nick Leonardo, a veteran Nashville lawyer who worked with NewsChannel 5 for some 15 years.

Millersville police did not respond to NewsChannel 5's request for comment.

As NewsChannel 5 Investigates first revealed, Shawn Taylor has voiced support for all sorts of bizarre conspiracy theories, many of them involving child sex trafficking and some of the country's most powerful political figures.

Taylor even believes the discredited QAnon "Pizzagate" hoax that falsely claimed Democrats kept child sex slaves locked up in the basement of a D.C. pizza parlor.

He imagines that Millersville, a community of about 6,000 people just north of Nashville, is at the center of Tennessee's drug and human trafficking operations.

The recordings show that, in a phone call in the run-up to the Millersville sting, Taylor once again revealed his conspiracy-fueled paranoia, insisting that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and other state law enforcement agencies are involved in the sex trafficking.

"So be real careful, especially when it comes to our state agencies," Taylor cautioned. "So we've just got to be real careful with them because we have people what we've already identified that are involved in the money laundering side."

"Truth be told, it's a lie," Leonardo said.

NewsChannel 5 Investigates added, "It's unhinged?"

"It's unhinged. It is very, very, very dangerous."

In fact, a team photo for Operation Clean Sweep, as Taylor dubbed it, consisted of just five police officers from Millersville — none with actual experience running child sex stings.

Two of the men were introduced to the group as "prayer warriors," who are part of a group that believes the battle against human trafficking is a battle against "demons."

The woman in the middle was a three-time Republican candidate for Congress from North Carolina, who faced accusations of domestic violence and child abuse that she denied.

There were also two MAGA podcasters and former Navy SEAL Craig "Sawman" Sawyer.

Back in 2018, Sawyer took a Tucson TV crew to a camp that he suggested might have been used for child sex trafficking.

In fact, police said it was just a camp used by homeless families.

These days, on far-right podcasts, Sawyer raises money for his own Arizona-based nonprofit called Veterans for Child Rescue, but there's no evidence that his group has ever rescued any actual children.

On one recent podcast, Sawyer claimed, without evidence, that he knew of a location "near Nashville, Tennessee that they are flying the children into."

Even more bizarrely, the secret recordings reveal Sawyer talking about his hopes for continuing to work with Shawn Taylor.

"And start whacking some — you know, not to make it political — but whole leftist, corrupt, pedophile, this evil thing that's taken over Nashville," Sawyer said.

Nick Leonardo's reaction?

"Just when you thought it couldn't get any more shocking, you keep listening and it just gets worse as it goes."

For example, in one recording, Shawn Taylor talks about being prepared for the operation with "pre-signed search warrants."

"We're going to have search warrants that are already — they'll have to meet certain perimeters for us to execute the search warrant — but they are going to be pre-signed search warrants," Taylor told a member of Sawyer's team.

There's just one major problem.

"A search warrant cannot be pre-signed," Leonardo said. "You have to see what's going on, and you have to put that into a warrant, and you have to swear to that individually in front of a judge — and that becomes the probable cause."

NewsChannel 5 asked, "Is a pre-signed search warrant going to stand up in court?"

"A pre-signed search warrant would be a criminal offense in and of itself," Leonardo answered.

A source with longtime experience running child predator schemes confirmed that "pre-signed search warrants" would not be legal.

In the recordings, a member of Sawyer's team reveals a deal with Shawn Taylor where Millersville PD would seize data from any suspects and share that data with Sawyer's group — people who are not law enforcement officers.

"They are going to dump their phones, and they've agreed to give us their contact lists off their phones — so all of this data" would be shared with the group, said Forrest Sealey, executive director of Veterans for Child Rescue.

Again, Leonardo was shocked by what he heard.

"There's no reason whatsoever that any kind of evidence — electronic data seized from any kind of device pursuant to a valid search warrant — should ever be in the hands of a private individual. That potentially would lend itself to a criminal charge."

"So that could be a crime, as well?"

"Potentially, it could be a crime."

And the video shows it was members of Craig Sawyer's team actually doing the chatting, posing online as a 12-year-old girl.

But that's not how Shawn Taylor was told that it had to be done to make it legal.

"So we just talked to our DA," Taylor said in a telephone call before the operation. "And, so, with the Tennessee state law, it said that the officer has to do the actual typing, that with our law it says it has to be a law enforcement officer posing as a minor."

Leonardo agreed.

"Clearly it needs to be a POST-certified sworn law enforcement officer on the other side of that computer tapping those keys."

But video from inside the operation shows that not only were members of Sawyer's team doing the typing, they were also concerned about there not being video of them doing it.

"They needed videos of them, law enforcement chatting," one of the so-called "chatters" told a videographer.

"I'm not getting your faces," the man replied.

"Yeah. I just... I'm cool with it," she responded, "but they wanted to show law enforcement — not us — touching the phones."

NewsChannel 5 Investigates asked Leonardo, "And the fact that they end up with people who are not law enforcement officers tapping the keys, those cases are in trouble?"

"Those cases are in serious, serious trouble," he agreed.

The recordings also show the plan was to try to lure the predators to a Shell station in Robertson County because the officers felt the prosecutor in this district would be more likely to work with them on their cases.

Millersville detective Mike Candler referred to fellow detective Todd Dorris as "Mater," a character from the animated "Cars" film series.

"Mater there is best friends with the district attorney in Robertson County," Candler said. "They went to high school together. So he said, 'Well, let's put this here so I can talk to him.' And we lock everything in. So he won't stand for nothing, and they all hate pedophiles."

And when they did get one suspect who had bicycled up Interstate 65 from Nashville thinking he was going to have sex with a 12-year-old girl, Millersville police took the man into custody.

"They said he was peddling like a son of a bitch," Candler recounted to the chatters.

Then, according to the recordings, the suspect was brought to a Millersville fire hall.

He didn't want to talk to the police, so they turned him over to Craig Sawyer's film crew.

"I just walked out, and y'all's little camera crew went in and starting asking questions — and he just gave everything up," Candler said.

One of the chatters sounded perplexed.

"The camera crew went in?"

"Yeah."

"Is that...?"

Candler quickly answered, "It's fine. We didn't prompt them, we didn't prompt them to ask any questions. We didn't have them do anything. It was unsolicited, and he just started what we call spontaneous utterance — just laying it out there."

Leonardo had a different opinion.

"Hands-down, the confession is not coming in for a host of different reasons because you have a private third party doing the interrogation and sitting here and filming it. That's not coming into evidence. It's just not."

NewsChannel 5 Investigates asked, "So again this guy could walk, probably would walk?"

"Yeah, he certainly would walk, certainly would walk based on the facts that we are going over here," Leonardo said. "I don't see how this prosecution could stick."

Still, the suspect was booked into Robertson County Jail — which, the detective grimly hinted, could be his last stop.

"Honestly, I wouldn't doubt he gets, comes up missing in the jail," Candler said.

"Yeah, I agree. I would like that," one of the chatters answered.

The detective continued, "That's a Robertson County thing. Robertson, Maury, Hickman, Monroe and Giles — you're not coming out of the jail."

Leonardo was stunned.

"What does that mean? What does he know that the rest of us do not?"

We noted, "Essentially, it sounds like he is saying we are taking him to a jurisdiction where we don't think he'll come out alive."

"Well, yeah, that could be the inference that's drawn," Leonardo said.

"That's very scary, and I think that's cause for an investigation by the TBI to determine what was meant by that."

The NewsChannel 5 legal analyst said he believes Millersville PD is now a rogue agency where conspiracy theorists have decided the laws don't apply to themselves.

NewsChannel 5 Investigates asked Leonardo, "From what you've heard in these recordings, is this a police department that's out of control?"

"It sounds to me like it's a police department that never had control," he answered.

"This is jeopardizing the safety of the citizens of Millersville and something needs to be done."

Craig Sawyer has gone on InfoWars and other far-right podcasts attacking NewsChannel 5 for our investigation of Taylor and referring to this reporter as a "pedophile protector."

He has claimed this predator sting generated enough evidence to charge another 70 people, although there's no way to tell if that's true.

Robertson County prosecutors have not returned NewsChannel 5's phone calls.

In cases where the suspects did not travel to meet the 12-year-old girl, one potential obstacle could be, according to the recordings, the "chatter house" was located in Sumner County — which is an entirely different judicial district.

It's not clear whether prosecutors there would take up any potential cases.

Ciearria Cookson and Carissa Kohne of Nashville TN wants to pass a law forcing RCs to show ID for medical services

Carissa Kohne is a law clerk at ForTheMilitary.com, a legal group that purports to help veterans sue hospitals for discrimination.

Ciearria Cookson works at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Wouldn't it be ironic if Ciearria's stupid proposal becomes law and the legal team at ForTheMilitary takes up the case to sue for discrimination?

(I must also note the case Ciearria pointed out was also dismissed/nolle prosequi)

Tennessee nurses push for new law to add protection from sex offenders

by: Mye Owens

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Nurses in Nashville are hoping to put a new bill on the books that would add another layer of protection against registered sex offenders.

“We face anything from any gross sexual comments, people have been threatened, and unfortunately, they have been trapped in a room where the patient has been a wall between the door and the nurse themselves, so it’s scary,” said nurse Ciearria. She asked News 2, not to reveal where she works but says sexual harassment has become a constant.

We asked her what she endures the most, Ciearria explained, “comments, sexual comments, and people who come in and they are able to do things for themselves […] and not anything basic, but regarding to any sexual parts and stuff like that.”

Now, she along with others are pushing for change on a state level. The hope is to have legislators take up a bill that would require sex offenders to present their offender identification card once inside the hospital.

“You would go register at the front desk, like any other patient, the only difference is that you would hand them your sexual offender identification card, and let them know,” explained Carissa Kohne, co-writer of the bill.

Kohne pointed to an incident back in 2020 where a registered sex offender was arrested after assaulting his nurse at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The nurse told police she was later adjusting the 46-year-old’s pillow when he grabbed her breast. She said she told him to stop, but he did it again.

Carissa explained if the bill passes, it wouldn’t stall medical services being given to patients. Instead, she explained that at the time a patient would give their name either upon entering the hospital or once conscious, then they would disclose their sex offender card information.

“It would allow us to plan how we would do patient care, not that it would change the care itself any, but we would be able to maybe go in with another nurse, let the charge nurse know hey I’m going in this room, and let them know when we are leaving,” explained Ciearria.

“I think it’s terrible that we don’t already have something in place in order to help nurses, and in order to help physicians […] there have been so many stories about patients and providers getting assaulted by patients just because their sex offender status wasn’t revealed,” explained Kohne.

They hope to have the bill presented during the next legislative session.

Daryl Chansuthus of WRAP seems okay with "extreme measures"

We have already nominated the controversial Tennessee Castration bill; this nomination is for the quote by Daryl Chansuthus, who runs a victim advocacy group. While she also stated some skepticism over the castration proposal, she also seems to support it while hinting that feminist perspectives should be included in the discussion.

Are you a registered person who wants to go to church in Tenn-NASTEE? Well, soon you'll be able to, but there's a catch

The good news here is that unlike North Korealina, TennNASTEE is actually going to allow registrants attend church. BUT, the bad news is that there's a catch.

If this law passes, registrants would have to disclose their status to churches and get written consent to attend. Since this will require written notification, how many churches in the state will tun people away?

Tennessee once again follows Alabama's bad example by introducing a mandatory chemical castration

Tennessee has a bad habit of copying Alabama's bad ideas. First, Tennessee passed a law like Alabama's that bars many registered persons from living with their own children. Now, Tennessee is trying to pass their own version of Alabama's mandatory chemical castration law. Tennes-SEE, Tennes-DO?

Registrants arrested in Tennessee for the crime of having lunch at McDonald's

Yes, in certain states, registrants cannot even eat at a McDonald's if it has a playground area.

McDonald's sucks anyways.

Sex offenders say they were 'just having lunch' prior to arrest near Memphis McDonald's playground
Updated: Aug 19, 2019 - 8:01 PM

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Two violent registered sex offenders were arrested Saturday near a Memphis McDonald's.

According to a police report, around 4 p.m. Saturday a manager at the McDonald's located in the 3300 block of Austin Peay Highway called the police.

The manager said she believed a registered sex offender was sitting next to the indoor playground at McDonald's staring at children who were playing.
    Content Continues Below

She told officers the registered sex offender, Robert Lee Collier, was caught on camera the previous day inside the playground area.

When officers arrived at the McDonald's, Collier and another known sex offender, Morris Johnson, were both sitting next to the indoor playground where approximately three children were actively playing.

Collier and Johnson were arrested for being within 1,000 feet of a playground where children were present. Both men were transported to the Felony Response Bureau.

Collier, however, told FOX13 he was “just having lunch with a friend” when the police were called.

“I did not consider that to be an area that I wasn’t supposed to be in, it being a public restaurant,” said Collier.

After his court appearance Monday, Collier told FOX13 he was not staring at the children as they played, but rather he was staring at the food he was eating.

This isn't the first time Collier has been arrested. Back in May of 2018, he was arrested for exposing himself to an 11-year-old child at the Wolfchase Galleria.

Police told FOX13 the child was trying to leave the bathroom when Collier allegedly grabbed his arm and neck. Officers said he pulled down his pants and exposed himself to the victim.

MPD said his mother heard him and responded.

According to the Tennessee Sexual Offender registry, Collier was placed on the registry for criminal attempt to commit aggravated sexual battery on May 19, 2018.

Morris Johnson was also placed on the registry for criminal attempt to commit aggravated sexual battery on February 15, 2003.

Both suspects have bonded out of jail with a $3,000 bond.

Collier said he was falsely accused in 2018, and he is being falsely accused again now.

“I clearly don’t have a problem. I’ve been falsely accused of this situation. I’m fighting this to the end: not guilty,” he said. “There’s no proof of this, I just want justice.”

According to Collier, Johnson has been his best friend for seven years. Johnson was placed on the sex offender registry for criminal attempt to commit aggravated sexual battery in 2003.

FOX13 reached out to the judge working on the case to ask how Collier – a violent registered sex offender – could have been booked into jail while on probation and released on a $3,000 bond.

The judge has not yet responded.

Kris Crim, the prevention director at the Memphis Childhood Advocacy Center told FOX13 about how to protect your children from sexual abuse in public places.

“The best way for parents to protect their children from sexual abuse is to be armed with knowledge. The Stewards of Children training offered by the Memphis Child Advocacy Center teaches adults how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.

Parents learn how to recognize red flag behavior, deter predators, and talk with their kids about sexual boundaries. Over 24,000 Shelby County adults have been trained since 2011.”

Anyone interested in taking the class can learn more here.

The advocacy center also provided these tips on how to minimize the risk of children being sexually abused. They include understanding grooming behavior by predators, talking to your children, monitoring your child’s internet use, and understanding what to expect of your child’s sexual development.

Giles Co TN Sheriff Kyle Helton and his monkey-see-monkey-do law

Why does Sheriff Kyle Helton look like Darryl's racist brother in The Walking Dead?
Tennessee recently passed a law preventing many registrants from living with their own kids. While that law might be Shiitake-worthy in itself, how it came to pass was more noteworthy.

Below is not the full article. It is long. I just wanted to focus on Sheriff Kyle Helton's role in destroying many families. He got the idea from the next state over, Alabama. In other words, monkey see, monkey do.

Hopefully THIS LAWSUIT will prevent that from happening.

NEW LAW FORCES DOZENS ON TENNESSEE’S SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY FROM THEIR HOMES
The legislation also makes it illegal for many ex-offenders to be alone with their own children.

Steven Yoder Jun 28, 2019

Last Sunday, Jason broke the news to his 7-year-old daughter: He’d be moving out. When a new Tennessee law goes into effect Monday, he will be barred from living with her. The law, Senate Bill 425, also forbids him from being alone with his daughter, meaning he can’t handle doctor’s appointments or pick her up from school, and he and his wife will need to hire childcare since she works full-time. His daughter cried when she heard but understood, Jason said, and told him she didn’t want her father to go to jail.

Seven years ago, a stepdaughter accused Jason of sexual touching, a charge he denies and attributes to discipline that he and his wife imposed. With the prosecutor threatening up to 18 years in prison, Jason says his lawyer advised him to take a plea deal that included probation, rather than risk a trial. Jason, whose name has been changed to protect his wife’s job, says the judge imposed no restrictions on him being around his daughter, and the Tennessee sex offense registry shows that he has no other criminal history.

Their predicament is likely to be felt more widely in coming months, as Tennessee implements the new law. It was spurred by Kyle Helton, sheriff of Giles County, which borders Alabama.

Alabama legislators pride themselves on making the state inhospitable to people with a sex crime in their past. Among other provisions, the state just enacted a chemical castration law and forbids adults whose offenses involved a victim younger than 12 from living with their own minor children. Helton has said that Alabama’s strict laws against former sex offenders were driving them over the border, and he wanted to put a stop to it. So he talked to his state senator, Joey Hensley, about introducing a bill that would match Alabama’s ban on living with children, according to Hensley. (The Giles County Sheriff’s Department said that Helton was not available to talk before deadline.)

Research shows relatively low reoffense rates for people convicted of sexual crimes—12 percent on average, according to a definitive 2014 study. But Helton’s lobbying paid off. Hensley introduced SB 425, which banishes people convicted of an offense involving someone under 12 from their homes if they have a child living there who’s a minor. On May 10, Governor Bill Lee signed it into law. On May 29, the Tennessee Department of Correction sent a letter to 78 people on the state sex offender registry advising them that they would need to pack up by July 1 or face arrest and prosecution...

Republican TN State Rep Diane Black blames pornography for school shootings

Did this state rep also listen to Bimbo Book? Bimbo Book compared me to a school shooter.

Tennessee lawmaker says pornography is a ‘root cause’ of school shootings

POSTED 9:10 AM, MAY 30, 2018, BY TRIBUNE MEDIA WIRE, UPDATED AT 10:09AM, MAY 30, 2018

Republican Rep. Diane Black of Tennessee recently cited pornography, along with the deterioration of the family and violent movies, as a contributing factor to gun violence in schools.

Black made the remarks during a listening session with local pastors last week, according to audio obtained by HuffPost and posted Tuesday.

“Why do we see kids being so violent? What’s out there? What makes them do that?” Black said. “Because, as a nurse, I go back to the root cause. And I think it’s a couple of things,” Black said, listing off the deterioration of the family and violent movies, before mentioning pornography.

“Pornography. It’s available. It’s available on the shelf when you walk in the grocery store. Yeah, you have to reach up to get it, but there’s pornography there,” Black says in the audio. “All of this is available without parental guidance.”

She adds, “And I think that’s a big part of the root cause, that we see so many young people who have mental illness get caught in these places.”

In the audio, Black does not detail what it is about pornography that she believes contributes to school shootings.

“I think the context is pretty clear,” Black’s campaign spokesman Chris Hartline told CNN Tuesday. “Diane believes the breakdown of families and communities plays a significant role in instances of school violence.”

Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts criticized Black’s comments, writing on Twitter that “despite all of the data and exerts at her disposal, (Black) chooses to blame ‘grocery store pornography’ for school shootings. And she doesn’t mean the magazines that glorify guns.”‘

[As an side, he looks like he shouuld be hosting some cable TV show about alien absuctions and Illumiati stuff.)

Rather than just post each article separately, I'm posting them together to create a "new" article. I will cut and paste the similar statements. Guess which statement belongs to which article and win bragging rights. NO CHEATING!

Tenn. law enforcement concerned by increase in sex offenders from Alabama

Tennessee’s sex offender laws are so lax, the Giles County sheriff says offenders are crossing the Alabama border to move to Tennessee. Law enforcement officers are concerned about an increase in the number of sex offenders moving to Tennessee from Alabama.

Sex offenders are telling Giles County law enforcement that they are moving over the state line because Alabama sex offender registry requirements are too tough, especially when it comes to offenders who want to live with their own biological children. Kyle Helton has been the sheriff of Giles County, which borders two Alabama counties, for 11 years. Helton says he has recently seen an increase in the number of sex offenders who have moved to his county. Lt. Shane Hunter with Giles County told News 2 his agency and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department noticed a major influx 8 to 9 months ago.

Because he is a convicted sex offender, Alabama law prohibits **** from living with his children. But in Tennessee, *** can live with his children because he didn’t commit a crime against them. Lt. Hunter says that’s why **** claims he and many other Alabama sex offenders are now moving in droves over the border to Tennessee. “Yes, it troubles me, and it troubles the neighboring counties as well,” said Lt. Hunter. “They realize that and word of mouth gets out and one sex offender tells another one that the laws are less stringent, and move up there, because there are less hoops to jump through and that is why they are moving to Tennessee and we have probably seen a 50 percent increase in our sex offenders from Alabama coming to Tennessee.” “[It] troubles the neighboring counties as well and they realize that and word of mouth gets out and one sex offender tells another one that the laws are less stringent, so move up there and there are less hoops for them to jump through and therefore, that’s why they are moving to Tennessee,” Lt. Shane Hunter said.

When it comes to staying overnight with children, Alabama’s law is crystal clear – no sex offender is allowed an overnight visit with a child under the age of 18, and that includes the offender’s biological children. In Tennessee, a sex offender can live with their biological children as long as they are not the victim of that crime. “They admitted to our staff that’s the reason they moved here,” Sheriff Helton says.

In addition, Alabama sex offender requirements are also more demanding when it comes to how far a sex offender must remain from a day care or school. In Alabama it is 2,000 feet. In Tennessee it is only 1,000 feet. In the state of Tennessee, a sex offender cannot live within 1,000 feet of a victim. Alabama’s law is twice is tough, and sex offenders must stay at least 2,000 feet away.

It makes me wonder how many other reporters pull this crap? Now that I think about it, it probably happens more often than you think. After all, how many Shiitake award nominees have repeat performances? While I've seen reporters refer to an older article, I've never seen a reporter pass off the same exact story in quite this manner. It was if he just reworded the same article and reposted it. Well, if he writes this same article net year, maybe I can just copy-paste THIS nominee article as well!

Johnson City TN Salvation Army denies shelter to teenager because of "pervert" fears

Here is something to consider when you see those annoying bell-ringers this holiday season. Apparently, the Salvation Army has a policy of denying teens ages 12-16 primarily due to Predator Panic, and this policy was quietly instituted about a decade ago, according to this article.

Just look at the justification here. If the teen stays with the ladies, he'd be leering at ladies in PJs because he's likely a little "pervert." But if he stays with the men, then some "pervert" is likely to molest him.

Soup, Salvation, and Stupidity!

Salvation Army revisits shelter policy after family turned away due to son's age

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) - The Johnson City Salvation Army is reviewing its emergency shelter policy after the organization turned away a homeless family with a teenage son on a cold night earlier this month, all because of the boy's age.

Tim Lejeune says on one of the coldest nights of the year, despite the organization's white flag waving outside the shelter, the Salvation Army turned his family away, because his son is 15 years old.

"They said he's too old to stay on the women's side, because of the women running around in their pajamas and they said he's too young to stay on the men's side in case some pervert wants to do whatever," Lejeune said.

Lejeune says his wife, their 15 year-old son, 16 year-old daughter and five year-old son, all down on their luck, have been living in their car for the last several weeks.

Lejeune says it was so cold one night earlier this month he took his family to the Salvation Army. Noticing the organization's white flag blowing in the cold air, generally a symbol that all are welcome due to hazardous weather conditions, he says he expected the organization to welcome them with open arms. Instead, he says the shelter told them there was no way they could stay there with a 15 year-old boy.

"He said, 'I'm sorry, your son, y'all can't stay here, because of his age,'" Lejeune said. "I said, 'Are you kidding me?'"

"It was just heartbreaking," 15 year-old Dustin Lejeune said late last week.

Prepared to return to their cars to sleep in 18 degree weather, Johnson City police officers came upon the family and took up their cause. However, that proved unsuccessful.

Certain the family should not be expected to sleep in their car on one of the coldest nights of the year, the officers brought the family to the Johnson Inn and then did something remarkable. They pooled their resources and were prepared to pay for a motel room for the family with money out of their own pockets.

"They collected money to put the family up and when they were at the Johnson Inn, the clerk that was working there that night realized what was going on, so they themselves comped the room for the family," Maj. Garry Younger said. "In return, the officers took the money they collected and went and bought groceries that they gave to the family. I'm very proud that we employ people with that fortitude that care about the citizens."

Police officers AD McElroy, Justin Jenkins, Toma Sparks and Robert McCurry were not the only ones to help this family with a selfless act. Along with police, Washington County-Johnson City 911 dispatchers on shift two helped raise enough money to buy this family groceries, dinner and leave some cash behind for them.

Salvation Army Captain Michael Cox says the organization has a longtime policy that prohibits boys ages 12 to 16 from staying at the shelter. According to Cox, the policy is in place for safety reasons; ultimately to protect children.

Cox says space limitations at the shelter do not allow the building to house maturing boys. He says that policy has only been an issue once before in the last decade or so. That said, he says the Salvation Army is now revisiting its shelter policy.

"It was an unfortunate situation altogether, because we did not have the facilities to put that family in place," Cox said of the situation. "We did offer further assistance and that was denied."

In the moments after we first met the family we shared their contact information with the Salvation Army. Monday their car was parked outside the organization. The organization has filled up their gas tank and even let them spend a couple nights at the shelter, but not because of any change of heart. Lejeune says their 15 year-old son is now receiving mental help at an area hospital.

"He ended up having a breakdown and ended up at Woodridge and felt it was all his fault that we were homeless that we couldn't go anywhere, because of him," Lejeune said.

While the family awaits the release of their son, they say they are now trying to get their kids enrolled in school and find a permanent housing solution.
