A CARMARTHEN tattoo artist has said she stopped a tattoo session and asked a customer to leave after he allegedly disclosed his previous conviction for child sex offences.

Ffion Emma, who works from Mythical Ink in Queen Street, Carmarthen, posted online that the man had appeared to be “a normal human being” before opening up about his past during the appointment.

She said he told her he had been in prison and admitted he had been found with indecent images of children.

The tattoo artist said she immediately stopped the session and told him to leave the studio...

In her post, Ffion said Evans was “not welcome” at the studio and made clear that anyone convicted of similar offences would not be accepted as a customer.

The post attracted a large reaction online, with many people praising her decision to end the appointment.

Some comments went further, calling for violent or humiliating treatment of sex offenders, but The Herald is not repeating those remarks.

Businesses are generally entitled to refuse service, provided the refusal is not based on a protected characteristic under equality law.

DailyMail.com has discovered more than 400 'p**e dens' of up to 18 s** p**s all living at the same California address.

An analysis of a government database of California s** o**s reveals that almost 2,000 convicted p**s are living together in groups of three or more at 442 locations across the state.

Some of the 'p** dens' are a little more than a block away from schools.

Law enforcement and current and former prosecutors of s** crimes told DailyMail.com the dens could be dangerous.

'That's a big deal,' said Nate Seger, President of the Sacramento County Deputy Sheriff's Association.

'These guys and gals have addictions, and to put them anywhere near a temptation is not serving them and it's not serving the kids.'

"It's terrifying. Your numbers truly, truly frighten me,' said former Deputy District Attorney Sam Dordulian, who prosecuted s** crimes in the LA DA's office.

'If they're all congregating with each other, it's just creating the environment for more of these crimes to occur.

'Even if they're trying to stay clean, they're in an environment where they're around other p**s. They're gonna be talking about children, having child porn available. And it's just creating a situation where you're almost sure there's going to be another offense.'

DailyMail.com obtained and analyzed a copy of the Megan's Law database of registered s** o**s in California.

The database contains records of 58,685 s** o**s, including 43,007 (73%) who have been convicted of s** crimes involving children.

By comparing these p**' addresses, the shocking picture emerged: hundreds of homes across the state where groups of child s** o**s were living, often near to schools.

DailyMail.com also spoke to residents of the 'dens' and even got a tour of one property housing several p**s. 

One property on Elm Avenue in Long Beach is home to 16 p**, according to the Megan's Law database.

Dordulian, a veteran p** prosecutor who now represents victims of s** crimes, told DailyMail.com that letting predators congregate in homes could raise their risk of reoffending.

'These guys all have their own little networks, especially online and sadly on the dark web,' he said. 'It wouldn't be surprising to me if they all tell each other 'well, you're looking for a place, this is the place to come to.' And that's how they all end up congregating.

'A lot of these guys look at child porn. If there's that available and one shows it to the other, they're going to bring those compulsions back for those guys, making it more likely that they're going to go out and recommit.

'There's going to be greater exposure to the stuff that triggers their compulsion, which is discussion of children, pictures of children, child porn and the like.

'This kind of a situation is going to create an environment where these p**s are going to have much greater opportunity, because no one's monitoring them.

'It's terrifying.'

Some of the addresses where the greatest numbers of p**s registered were homeless shelters, halfway houses or sober living facilities often used by recently released convicts.

The Weingart Center, a Los Angeles homeless shelter, has 25 p**s registered there, the most in the state.

A halfway house called A Place of Comfort on the city's Normandie Avenue is home to 24 predators according to the Megan's Law database.

But many others were seemingly normal residential properties, like an eight-bed, 2,700 sq ft property on Walnut Avenue in Long Beach which houses 17 p**s, or a 5-unit apartment building on Orange Avenue in the city with four p**s that is less than 1,000ft from Franklin Classical Middle School.

DailyMail.com asked the California S** O** Management Board (CASOMB), an office set up by the Governor to monitor s** o**s, about these predator group homes.

Board Coordinator Lea Chankin responded that 'California does not classify individuals on the registry as p**s', and pointed to one of their 2016 reports which said: 'For many years, CASOMB has recommended against adopting or continuing residence restrictions in California' for s** o**s.

'While the mission of the California S** O** Management Board (CASOMB) is to address issues, concerns and problems related to managing adult s** o**s in the community, the Board cannot comment on your analysis of data from the California Department of Justice,' Chankin said in a statement last week.

'Without reviewing the data and understanding the collection methods, any interpretation would be lacking context.'

She did not respond to an offer to share the data.  

A spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) said the penal code stipulated 'all registered s**-o** parolees shall not reside in a single family dwelling with any other s** o**, whether or not they are on parole, unless they are related by blood, marriage or adoption.'

However, DailyMail.com interviewed homeowners and lead tenants at homes where up to six p**s shared a room together.

A spokesperson for the California Department of Justice, which administers the Megan's Law database, previously admitted to DailyMail.com that they were aware of predators' group homes.

'Because it can be difficult for folks to find housing, it's not unusual for them to group together, if they find a place that works,' a spokesperson said.

In a statement last month, the department said the issue was for District Attorneys, courts, and state legislators to deal with, but added that it has 'Human Trafficking and S**ual Predator Apprehension Teams, which, as appropriate, regularly work with local authorities to protect public safety.'

Robin Sax, a former Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney who prosecuted p**s, said probation officers may even work with o**s to find these homes.

'There's a lot of limitations on where s** o**s can live. You can't be within so many yards of a park or a school, places where kids congregate,' she said.

'It gets pretty limited theoretically, where these people can go. It doesn't surprise me necessarily that you'd find clusters of areas where s** o**s congregate.'

'If there's a registered s** o** and they have a parole officer, and they're trying to figure out where to live, and the parole officer knows that they have five more clients that have been able to successfully get houses in this particular area, that may provide some of the rationale as to how people ended up in the same area.'

'A lot of these o**s have to take mandatory classes and programs and treatments, after they've been in prison, and so it's also possible that in their classes and groups they've met each other and also found places to live.

'The one thing that would be a massive concern is that we know that the movement of exchanging child pornography is done in a group format. That's how images are shared. There is great concern of people in clusters operating with the same illnesses.'

It is unclear how prevalent 'p** dens' are in other states, as DailyMail.com was only able to obtain detailed o** data from the California Megan's Law database.

Solutions in other states have included housing convicts of s** crimes in their own colonies.

More than half the 300 residents of Miracle Village, a tiny hamlet near Lake Okeechobee in Florida, are s** o**s. Newly released convicts are recommended the remote community in Palm Beach County, founded by a pastor, when they get out of prison.

Some California landlords receive cash from the state for housing p**s and other s** o**s in normal communities.

According to a 2010 report by the Orange County Register, landlords received a $1,500 monthly stipend through a CDCR program. One apartment complex owner in Alamitos Beach was reportedly packing up to six parolees in each unit – causing single women and families to flee from the risk.

The CDCR said it still has a limited policy of paying rent for some parolees.

DailyMail.com spoke to a manager at one Long Beach property, himself a convicted p**, who lives there with seven other child s** o**s...

R** said the CDCR doesn't pay his tenants' rent any more, but regularly places s** o**s in the four-apartment building he manages.

'Two of our apartments are considered transitional housing,' he said. 'It's a place where people try to put their lives back together, have a steady job, shower and prepare food.

'Parole knows we have open beds, and then if they have someone who needs a bed, parole will send them in this direction.'

R** said he began managing the property soon after he arrived when he impressed the owner by doing repair work.

He said clusters of p**s are the result of restrictions on where they can live, and landlords' reluctance to house them.

'Part of the concentration thing you're talking about is because of the limitations of where people can live. In those little areas that meet all those requirements – distances from schools, parks – those little areas become enclaves,' he said.

'I get the concept of protecting people. But at the same time there seems to be no concept of forgiveness.'

R** said he was proud of the property.

'I run a pretty tight ship here. There are other facilities that are not quite as maintained … Bed bugs, people doing drugs, people having overnight guests, female or male, that shouldn't be there, alcohol consumption.

'The only thing that's problematic with neighbors is kids will be playing with their balls and they come over the fence. We just pick them up and throw them back. I've never had any problem with the neighbors about our being here.

'There's no restrictions. You can have kids living right next door.'

Although CDCR said any single-family dwelling cannot house more than one s** o**, R** said they have many more.

'We're cramming five or six guys together into one apartment. They all have different work hours, different foods they like to eat and they're all trying to use the same kitchen.

'If there's issues then I have to deal with those. You've got several people living together in a single apartment. They're going to get on each others' nerves, same as anybody else.'

Some houses and apartments are classed by CDCR as a 'residential facility' like transitional housing, where the limit does not apply.

R** said the only limit he was aware of was six parolees at any one address – which could mean a single apartment.

R** said the property is within half a mile of a school and the residents' bus route is also a common route for students.

'Whether you take the bus north or south from here, you go right by a high school and a junior high school. In the school year at the wrong time of day that bus gets filled up with kids,' he said.

'It used to freak me out. Because I'm surrounded by a bunch of young people, I'm going to get in trouble, someone's going to make a false claim against me. That was my biggest fear.'

A (Registrant) and landlord of a property in Downtown Los Angeles, gave DailyMail.com a tour of his five-bed home where he currently houses 11 p**s...

In his house on East 48th Street, tenants pay $675 per month to live two to a sparse room in single beds, all sharing the kitchen and living room.

The kitchen's fridge was plastered with house rules including a ban on phones or laptops in the bathroom and no guests. Copies of Men's Health magazine had been neatly placed on the living room coffee table, stuffed lion and panda toys sat on top of shelves by the television, and a real python basked under a lamp in a glass box in the corner.

H** said he knew some of his tenants were s** o**s, placed there by the local parole office, but said he was not aware their victims were children.

'I try to provide a nice place for them,' he said. 'The parole department never tell me what their cases are. They just say 'make sure they're registered'.

'I opened up a transition house and when they come I'm 'Mr. H**' now. I'm not a prison number any more. I'm a businessman.'

The home is a few doors down from a pre-school and a couple of blocks from an elementary. Neighbors said there are many families on the street and kids often walk by the house on their way to or from school.

H** said the schools were established after he started taking parolees, and that he didn't see it as a problem.

'You don't just grab people and throw them out because they put a school right there. The school is not right in front of this house. Now, it could be a problem if it was, but it's not. It's way over there. And I was here first.'

Neighbor Ramon Nolasco, 74, disagrees.

'This is dangerous for families around here. There are lots of families here, many schools. In the morning and afternoon there are a lot of students walking by here,' he said.

'They should be in other places where there are no families. But the government only talks, they don't do anything. We feel abandoned.'

Other properties housing multiple p**s were less well-kept.

DailyMail.com visited a duplex at North Washington Place in Long Beach, where a plastic sheet covering its smashed front window flapped in the wind and a drug deal was in process upstairs.

Megan's Law data says 13 s** o**s including eight p**s are registered there.

Resident Francisco Santos, 42, had a GPS ankle bracelet on. He claimed his s** offense was a relationship with a 17-year-old whom he married.

'I'm not a p**, not a c** m**. I was married to her for a few years. But they put me in the same cart as these others,' he said.

'They send me to group therapy, we all have to go to a program. I don't like being around it, it's poison to my brain. When somebody says 'I molested my daughter', I don't want to hear that. That's not me.'

At another dilapidated Long Beach property on Orange Avenue, home to four p**s according to the Megan's Law database, one resident said the s** o**s lived among young families.

'It's kind of like living in the Twilight Zone, combined with a mental institution and being on the street,' Lila Elle, 44, told DailyMail.com.

'I've been on the streets, in jail, in these transitional homes. This building is up there.

'There's a lot of dope, a lot of drugs. I come from domestic violence.

'These landlords, they pick certain types to live in these buildings. It's a lot of convicts, a lot of drug addicts, so they can manipulate them.

'There's one family in the back. They have a little six-year-old. Another resident sometimes has his family over, they're around six to eight. Definitely p** bait.

'Each unit is $1,675. There's three of us in a studio, it's about $575 each. Some of these transitional homes you'd have six girls in a studio in bunk beds.'

The property manager, convicted r** K**, 64, said: 'There's never been a problem here, and I've been here going on nine years … Everybody shares food, there's barbeques.'

CDCR spokeswoman Terry Thornton said safety was the department's priority.

'When dealing with people on active parole supervision, our parole agents across the state work hard to ensure proper supervision and compliance of active parolees in the community, including those on state supervision for s**-related crimes,' she said.

Thornton said all o**s on parole supervision have GPS monitoring.

She argued that properties highlighted in the investigation were 'residential facilities' and not a 'single-family dwelling', meaning the rules on the maximum number of s** o** residents do not apply.

Thornton also cited CDCR statistics saying s** o**s are less likely to reoffend.

'The most current three-year conviction rate we have for all people released from prison is 44.6 percent, and for s** o**s it is 30.5 percent,' she said.

A Canadian study from 2004 found c** m**s with boy victims outside their families were the type of predator most likely to commit another s** offense, at a rate of 35% after 15 years.

A 2017 US Department of Justice memo cited an analysis of 94 studies which found s** o**s had an overall reoffending rate of 37%, with s**ual re-offenses at 14% after five to six years.

S** o**s are four times more likely than other criminals to be rearrested for a s** crime, according to the Justice Department.

Researchers also warned that not all reo**s are caught.

'You're talking about people who, statistically studies show are more likely to reoffend,' former p** prosecutor Sam Dordulian told DailyMail.com.

'If they're together, they're just going to create this situation. A lot of these guys look at child porn. If there's that available and one shows it to the other, they're going to bring those compulsions back for those guys, making it more likely that they're going to go out and recommit.

'No one cares where they're living. And they're all congregating, as you apparently have discovered, with each other. And it's scary.'

Ex-Hull City (UK) Council worker Chloe Carr gave personal info on a Registered Person to a vigilante group for purposes of harassment

Council worker leaked sex offender's address to paedophile hunter's group

A heavily pregnant Hull City Council worker leaked the highly sensitive address of a sex offender to an anti-paedophile group. This lead to a 30-strong angry mob turning up outside his new home and threatening to kill him and burn down the house.

Customer services assistant Chloe Carr told the paedophile hunters that the sex offender "deserves all he gets" and was "bloody awful" and "disgusting" but she asked them not to reveal that she had passed on the explosive confidential information about him. The sex offender had to be hurriedly moved to a new address and Carr's unprofessional actions helped to "whip up a frenzy" and were "not a public service at all" because they "destabilised" convicted criminals and risked making them "unpredictable", Hull Crown Court heard.

Carr, 23, of Taylor Avenue, Cottingham, admitted unlawfully disclosing private data to an online website without consent. She denied misconduct in public office as a customer service advisor for Hull City Council by abusing the public's trust and disclosing confidential and personal data between June 4 and July 2, 2020 and that charge was dropped.

Charlotte Baines, prosecuting, said that Carr was employed at the time by an agency to work for the city council and to help direct members of the public to assistance that might be available. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, she was working from home in Anlaby and there was a work chat group in which she could have contact with colleagues.

Another worker sent a message to the group saying that a call had been received from a convicted sex offender, who had contacted the council's customer services team asking for a food parcel to be sent to him as he had been placed into emergency accommodation because his details had been put on Facebook. The address of where he would be living was shared by the chat group but Carr sent details of it to a Hull-based anti-paedophile group..

She told the online paedophile hunters that she had details on the sex offender but asked to be kept anonymous. She said in messages that it was "disgusting" that the sex offender was still in Hull and would be living near a school.

Carr was asked by the anti-paedophile group if she had proof of the man's details and replied: "Yes, everything is 100 per cent" and confirmed that she had his street address. She said that she worked for Hull City Council and there was a reply from the online group asking if she could share that address with them.

Carr sent a screenshot of the sex offender's address and said: "This can't come back to me due to my work." The paedophile hunters asked her for the number of the house. She told the online group that it was "so wrong" to put the man there and added: "I don't believe in it. I will look now."

Carr was thanked by the anti-paedophile group and she was told: "Thank you so much" and that details would be going online shortly. She replied: "Please don't mention it's come from the council" because records were kept and it might "come back to me" because of the disclosure. "The defendant made it abundantly clear that she worked for Hull City Council and the information needed to be kept anonymous," said Miss Baines.

At 6.40pm, the sex offender contacted the police to say that he had received a food parcel from Hull City Council but that people were at his door trying to break into the property and he had been warned to "get out now or they would kill him and burn down the property" There were 30 people in the mob outside the house.

At 7.19pm, the anti-paedophile group contacted Carr on Facebook Messenger to thank her for her information and to say that the sex offender had been moved from the house. Carr replied: "I am so happy. He is bloody awful. Happy to have helped everyone."

The paedophile hunters thanked her. There was further contact during the following days, with further messages about the sex offender.

The police later identified Carr as being involved in the chats after they realised that there was a problem. They went to her then home in Anlaby and seized two laptops.

She told police that, when a colleague shared details of the sex offender, she was "quite angry because she was pregnant" and that after someone in her chat group said that something needed to be done, she took it upon herself to contact the anti-paedophile group and to supply further details. "She said that she knew it was wrong," said Miss Baines. "She was kicked out of the works chat. She wasn't allowed to return to work, one assumes."

Helen Chapman, mitigating, said that the sex offenders that Carr had been referring to were people who had been before the courts, had been found guilty or sentenced and had "done their time and come out" of prison. "These groups exist on Facebook in order to whip up a frenzy," said Miss Chapman.

Carr was heavily pregnant at the time and the messages were exchanged just a fortnight before her son was born in July 2020. He was now aged nearly two. Miss Chapman also stated that the offence was "short-lived but persistent" and Carr was in "something of a vulnerable position" at the time because the boy's father had left her after she told him that she was pregnant.

"It didn't help that she was working from home," said Miss Chapman. Carr was now on Universal Credit and child benefit. "She is just beginning to look for work," said Miss Chapman. Carr had no previous convictions.

Judge Mark Bury said that the offence might not have happened if there had been a "little bit more supervision" of Carr and she had not been working from home. The decision not to proceed with a prosecution under the more serious misconduct in public office offence had been taken after a "thorough review by a number of different people" for the prosecution but it meant that the maximum penalty for the lesser offence that Carr now faced was a fine and not prison.

"You are very lucky about that," said Judge Bury. "The offence that you have committed is, in my view, a very serious one that would have carried a sentence of imprisonment." He told the court: "I would have locked her up."

Judge Bury said that it was not for Carr or anyone else to pass comment and say that the man involved "deserves all he gets and he's bloody awful". The person had to be rehoused again and it led to problems in rehabilitating such people and "destabilising" them, risking them becoming "more unpredictable" and committing offences.

"This is not a public service at all," said Judge Bury. "They had done their punishment. It wasn't for you to give their details out."

It did "not take much imagination" to work out what the anti-paedophile group were planning to do. "The problem that this causes is that it destabilises offenders," said Judge Bury. "It makes them unpredictable and more likely to commit offences that everyone else is trying their hardest to prevent them from doing. It's not doing a public service at all. It's a huge disservice.

"I am quite satisfied that you knew what you were doing because you said you didn't want your name to be mentioned because you would be sacked, which, of course, you were. I hope this has been a lesson. If you work in the public sector again, you just have to remember that you have a grave responsibility with public details. You thought you were helping. You were not."

Carr was fined £500, to be paid at £50 a month. After the hearing, she left the court building giggling and joking loudly with two female supporters and headed straight across the road and into the pub opposite the court.

Sex offender councillor's name removed from plaque

The name of a former council leader jailed for sexually assaulting three women has been removed from a plaque marking the opening of a bridge he helped campaign for.

Ex-Devon County Council boss Brian Greenslade was jailed for 16 months after being convicted in May.

His name has been scratched off the sign marking the opening of the Western Bypass and Taw Bridge in Barnstaple.

Devon County Council said the work was an "interim measure".

A spokesman for the authority said it was exploring longer term options to commemorate the opening of the bridge.

He added: "Following Brian Greenslade's conviction, we are sensitive to the potential offence likely to be caused to survivors and others affected by his historic actions."

The 72-year-old, from Marwood, near Barnstaple was also a member of the Devon and Cornwall Police Authority.

He denied the assaults, which took place in the 1990s and 2000s, dismissing one allegation as "absolute nonsense" but was found guilty by a jury at Exeter Crown Court.

The Barnstaple Western Bypass and £42m Taw Bridge opened on 23 May 2007.

The project took two years to build and Greenslade said at the time the opening was a wonderful day for him after two years of hoping it would become a reality.

A Hull woman hacked into her ex-boyfriend's Facebook account, arranged to meet a 14-year-old for sex and then alerted a paedophile vigilante group in a bizarre revenge plot.

Amy Gray, 37, of Great Thornton Street, said she was angry that her ex had left her for another woman and in November 2018 decided to teach him a lesson.

Gray - who had helped the man set up a Facebook profile - used his passwords to log on and message a 14-year-old girl that was later revealed to be a decoy set up by a paedophile vigilante group.

Hull Crown Court heard on Monday that Gray - pretending to be her ex-boyfriend - arranged to meet the underage girl on Newland Avenue for sex.

Ben Thomas, prosecuting, told the court she had also used her ex-partner's new girlfriend's name, claiming they wanted the girl to take part in a "threesome."

In an interview with police, Gray told officers it would be a "bonus" for her love rival to get into trouble too.

"Predator's Exposed," the group behind the decoy, then made their way to Newland Avenue expecting to catch Gray's ex-partner, who is in fact already on the Sex Offender's Register.

Mr Thomas told the court: "Of course no one turned up to meet them so they went to his house as his address had been given in some of the messages."

The man answered the door to see six members of the group who had travelled to confront him.

They were filming the video and posting it live onto Facebook.

During the interception the man was called a "dirty, vile piece of s***", a "jelly bellied b******" and even Fred West.

His new partner was also apprehended by the group and told she could not answer her mobile phone. The woman's concerned mother had found out through her niece that her daughter was being live streamed on Predator's Exposed's Facebook page and was trying to get hold of her.

Humberside Police were called and the couple were taken into custody, detained for 12 hours and interviewed.

Mr Thomas told the court that their house was searched and their phones were analysed.

However, Gray was eventually caught out when officers realised the IP address of where the messages were sent from was her address.

Her ex-partner was the subject of a tag which also showed he had not been to her house when the messages were sent, proving it was Gray behind the messages.

Mr Thomas said: "In an interview she said she wanted revenge. She knew how much the video would be shared and she wanted him in prison so he and his new partner couldn't be together."

In a victim personal statement the man told how he and his partner had been forced to move away from Hull, have been shouted at in the street and even had their home doused in graffiti.

The woman said she did not leave her home on her own for nine months.

The court heard how Gray has a previous conviction for three offences of sexual assault, for which she was convicted in 2005.

However, her barrister, Amber Hobson, told the court these took place when Gray was living as a man. She transitioned into a woman a year later.

Ms Hobson said: "She struggled with her identity most of her life and lived her life in the shadows. Perhaps that has taken a toll on her and affected her mental health. She has one previous conviction from a very different time in her life when she was living as a man. She worked with the probation service and found it very helpful.

"She says that offending was born out of confusion with her identity and not an attraction to children or women."

Ms Hobson appealed to Judge David Tremberg, telling her Gray would struggle in prison as a transgender woman.

She added that Gray is remorseful and that the author of a pre-sentence report had come to the conclusion that Gray is at low-risk of reoffending.

"She didn't foresee the level of scrutiny they would be subjected to," Ms Hobson added.

As he jailed Gray for five years for perverting the course of justice, Judge Tremberg told her: "You wanted to make him suffer and cause maximum harm and degradation to his emotional wellbeing, status and reputation. If that caused harm and distress to his girlfriend that was a bonus for you.

"You exposed them to an ordeal of public humiliation."

High-secret documents about pedophiles and their victims have been present in a UK road — as a result of a cop’s mother-in-law unknowingly threw them in a dumpster, a disciplinary listening to was advised.

Blackburn sex offender jailed after being caught with Nintendo DS consoles

A convicted sex offender who failed to tell police that he had two internet-capable Nintendo DS games consoles has been jailed for 12 months.

****, from Blackburn, was given a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) in 2017 after being caught with extreme pornography involving animals...

When Hutchinson was asked about any other internet-capable devices he said 'no' but a search of his bedroom revealed another Samsung phone and two Nintendo DS consoles.

The defendant said he used the phone 'as an alarm clock' and a search of the device found adult pornography in the search history.

When asked again if he had any other devices he initially said no, but after a few seconds said: "All right. There's another downstairs in a purple box in the living room".

In his police interview, Hutchinson said the Samsung mobile phone was used by himself and his partner as an alarm clock but that it could be used for wi-fi and had a sim card inside.

He said the two Nintendo DS consoles had been checked previously but 'acknowledged he should have disclosed them'.

A respected lollipop man has admitted he resigned from his job after the council told him he could no longer high-five children because it could be interpreted as grooming.

Bryan Broom, 77, shocked parents and pupils alike after deciding to hang up his hi-viz earlier this week.

He left yesterday in an emotional afternoon and was showered with gifts and hugs from devastated children who urged him not to leave.

Bryan’s resignation came after complaints were made about him high-fiving youngsters as they left Kirk Ella St Andrew’s Community Primary School in west Hull.

And now, Bryan has revealed why he made the tough decision to quit doing the job he loved after almost two decades.

He said: “I used to high-five the kids until I was told it could be construed as grooming – that is what the council told me.

“It’s rather peculiar because two or three months ago there were pictures of the Duchess of Cambridge high-fiving at a school and I should have sent copies of those to the council.

“If it was good enough for the royal family why is it not good enough for me?

“If I carried on I would feel so frustrated that I would have to watch my Ps and Qs all the time.

“I wouldn’t know how to talk to people because I am a rather outgoing person.

“Maybe I do say some things wrong but generally I do, I think, a pretty good job.

“It makes me feel sad and I thought if this is what is happening to the world I don’t want to be a part of this.”

Since news of Bryan’s resignation broke among parents, mums have leaped to his defence and slammed those who have complained to the council about his behaviour as “pathetic” and “ridiculous.”

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has said that investigations were launched after complaints were made about Bryan’s conduct.

However, none of these were upheld.

In a statement, the council said: “The council had received a number of complaints from parents about the behaviour of Mr Broom.

"These complaints were investigated but not upheld. Mr Broom is choosing to leave of his own accord and we wish him well in the future."

Bryan condemned those who made complaints against him and slammed the perceived “political correctness” creeping into society, but was thankful for the support he received from many well-wishers.

“It means so much to me,” he said. “It proves that the majority of people are not into this political correctness and that they are the same as me.

“The ordinary people have come to my defence.

“This political correctness has been perpetuated by a small minority of people and in the last couple of days, the majority has proved to me that Mr and Mrs Ordinary are wonderful people and they don’t want this political correctness.”

After waving his lollipop stick for the last time on Friday, Bryan now plans to take a break by going on holiday for a week.

However, he expressed his pride and gratitude to those who showed up on his final day to give him the perfect send-off.

“It has been fantastic,” Bryan said. “I expected a bit of a fuss but it’s gone viral and I love it.

“I’ve had chocolate, gin, wine – you name it, and I’ve had some really nice messages from children saying ‘please don’t go.’

“It’s been wonderful and I feel so humbled that people think so fondly of me.”

A DAD staying in a hotel with his teenage daughter was stunned when staff told police he was a paedophile.

The doting father was branded a sex offender after Travelodge staff mistook his daughter for an underage girl they thought he had groomed.

Shocked Karl Pollard, 46, was taking Stephanie, 14, to visit his cancer-stricken mum.

The pair checked into the budget hotel near her home in Macclesfield, Cheshire, earlier this month.

But when Karl went up to the room to freshen up, he was confronted by police, who accused him of grooming the teenager.

Karl said: “I couldn’t believe it.

“It was an emotional trip already – but it was made so much worse.

“One minute I was brushing my teeth, the next I was being told I was a paedophile.”

Karl and Stephanie had made the four-hour train journey from their home in south Wales to visit his mother.

Karl said: “My mum has just been diagnosed with aggressive lung cancer.

“We’re not sure how long she has left."

“I wanted to take Stephanie down to visit her before she started treatment.”

Karl, a carer for his wife Kim, 45, who has multiple sclerosis, booked a double bedroom for him and Stephanie after being told it was the only room left.

He said: “When we arrived the receptionist gave me a weird look but I thought nothing of it.

“We went up to the room to get unpacked and ready to see my mum.

“It was only a 20-minute walk away – which is why I chose the hotel.

“About 10 minutes later there was a knock at the door. A policewoman was standing there. I thought something had happened to my mum or my wife.

“But she said, ‘We’ve had a call from Travelodge, they believe you are a paedophile grooming underage girls’.”

Karl and Stephanie were interviewed separately by the officer.

He said: “I explained to her that I was Stephanie’s dad.

“The officer had to ask her loads of questions to prove it.”

Karl said police dropped the matter almost immediately, but the episode left Stephanie “distraught”.

He said: “My daughter was in tears. She was so scared – and thought I was going to get taken away.

“This has never happened to me before.”

He said that Travelodge had not apologised to him and not offered a refund for his stay. The weekend cost Karl £150.

He added: “It was an already traumatic trip. I was treated disgustingly.

“The worst was my daughter, she was just so distraught.”

Travelodge said it takes its responsibilities towards protecting children and vulnerable young people extremely seriously.

A spokesman said they had said sorry to Karl and had now given him a full refund.

They added: “All our hotel teams are trained according to national guidelines supported by the NSPCC.

“In the past proactive action by our hotel teams has helped to safeguard young people at risk. In this instance we got it wrong.”

Cheshire Police said: “Police were called at 3pm on Thursday, February 8, to reports of suspicious activity at a hotel on Waters Green in Macclesfield.

“Staff at the Travelodge did the right thing by reporting what they believed to be suspicious activity to officers, although thankfully there was nothing untoward and it turned out to be a misunderstanding.”

Last year, a Travelodge in Surrey asked dad Craig Darwell to prove he was the father of 13-year-old daughter Millie after staff accused him of being a paedophile.

A child groomer must remain in custody after a judge ruled that paedophile hunters were allowed to snare him at Nottingham Railway Station.

Defence solicitor Julian Griffiths suggested that sting operations should be left to the police - and that vigilantes could spark trouble by staging arrests.

But District Judge Tim Spruce said the group's evidence should be accepted at the trial of **** at the city's magistrates' court. He found him guilty of three charges.

The judge said: "There are competing interests, clearly a public interest to protect children from the type of behaviour alleged here, sexual exploitation and abuse.

"The counter argument is that if we allow people to set you up in this way, it will result in disorder, there will be more trouble and it will cause more crime.

"I think in balancing these factors, most people would think it is more important to prevent sexual exploitation rather than run the risk of vigilantes creating disorder." ...

He was sent to Nottingham Crown Court to appear there on March 12. Bismellah, formerly of Coventry, has been in custody since the paedophile hunters performed a citizens' arrest at the station on December 16.

At the trial, Mr Griffiths said the group set a trap and encouraged law-breaking. He questioned whether it was the right way to tackle internet grooming...

"But he was being entrapped, being tempted into this activity. This deception was a pack of lies and there is the sting at the railway station.

"These people are unregulated investigators, some would call them vigilantes. This should be a state prosecution but this is a misuse of the courts. Only if it is impracticable for the police to attend should they effect a citizens' arrest."

A MAN who claimed to be using indecent images of children to snare paedophiles has been ordered to sign the sex offender register for five years.

Christopher Daniel Smith, 27, of Coldstone Cross, Kingstone, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to making four category C indecent images of children aged around 14-years-old.

Kriss Ewing, prosecuting at Hereford Magistrates Court, said that on July 27, police acting on intelligence attended the address linked to the defendant after he had uploaded an indecent image onto Facebook.

Police took Smith's phone from him and found four indecent images of children.

"The images were Category C so not the most serious images of children around 14-years-old," said Mrs Ewing.

"If you open or download an image it means you have made it. The four photographs were in a gallery on his phone."

Smith told police that he had been 'paedophile hunting' and somebody had sent these images to him.

"Searches on his phone were also questionable and included 14-year-olds and teens," added Mrs Ewing.

When questioned about this, Smith said that the 14-year-olds search was 'probably a typo' and the teen search was relating to his interest in 18 and 19-year-olds.

Marilena Di Vitantonio, mitigating, said that Smith had been trying to set-up a website similar to that of 'H Division' and had approached people for advice.

"He then sent images to potential paedophiles but should have then contacted police immediately and let them deal with it," said Miss Di Vitantonio.

"Unfortunately he didn't and the images were retained on his phone."

At Hereford Magistrates Court on Friday, Smith was handed a sexual harm prevention order for five years and ordered to sign the sex offenders register for five years.

He was also ordered to pay £185 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Inmates at Walton prison fear they could be sleeping under blankets made by sex offenders.

The concerns were highlighted in a letter written by an HMP Liverpool inmate and published by prison magazine Inside Time.

The prisoner describes himself as “horrified” to learn a “sex offender’s hands have been all over my blanket” and questions why they are distributed throughout the prison system.

In the letter, the inmate claims to have discovered his blanket was made at HMP Stafford - a specialist prison that holds only sex offenders.

The institution, which was previously home to shamed entertainer Rolf Harris, is described as a closed training prison by the Ministry of Justice and has an industrial workshop complex on the site.

The prison has the capacity to hold 751 Category C sex offenders.

Writing in this month’s Inside Time, the prisoner complained: “I have just learned that the orange, prison-issue blankets are made in HMP Stafford, which means it was actually made by sex-offenders. I am horrified,.. How can the prison system distribute these sex-offender blankets throughout the prison population?

"I feel so angry that I cannot even sleep knowing that sex-offender’s hands have been all over my blanket.”

He then goes on to ask: “Can’t somebody do something to stop this happening? The blankets they make should stay within the sex-offender wings.”

The ECHO has attempted to contact the Ministry of Justice over the issue.

Council bans daughter contact over child images

A man who informed police when he found child abuse images on his computer has not been allowed to be alone with his daughter for four months.

Nigel Robinson from Hull said he called police after trying to download music but instead finding pornographic images on his laptop last November.As a result social services said he "should not have unsupervised access with his own or other children". He said he was "totally innocent". No arrests or charges have been made.

Mr Robinson, 43, recalled how on discovering the images he discussed the situation with his wife and immediately called police to report the incident. Shortly after his call the police and East Riding social services came to Mr Robinson's house to take statements from him. During the meeting social services requested Mr Robinson did not have unsupervised access with his child.

'No control'

A council statement said: "The council's social care team considers that, on the information it presently has about this case, it is a proportionate response to request that Mr Robinson should not have unsupervised access with his own or other children.

"The council will keep the case under review but cannot comment further as this is an on-going investigation."

The police took the laptop away for investigation and said it could be a year before it is returned, Mr Robinson said.

Humberside Police said: "We are conducting an investigation that has resulted in the confiscation of a laptop in order for the relevant enquiries to take place - standard procedure for this type of investigation.

"The laptop is sent away to be examined and, as this forms the basis for a number of different investigations, Humberside Police have no control over the amount of time it takes for the laptop to be returned."

'Very stressful'

Mr Robinson said: "It makes you feel as though you shouldn't have reported it in the first place." He added it would have been "a lot easier" to just throw the machine in the bin.

Mr Robinson said the restrictions on seeing his daughter had come to a head after his wife had returned to work. When his wife works late, as regularly happens, Mr Robinson's daughter goes to his mother-in-law's home. He goes round to see his daughter and them comes home on his own. He said the experience was "very stressful for the family".
